Robeson House, the landmark purpose-built student accommodation development for the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has been featured by Educational Snapshots, highlighting how thoughtful interior design can transform student accommodation into a vibrant, supportive and inspiring living environment.

Located in South London adjacent to Burgess Park, the £100 million, 16-storey development provides 676 high-quality student rooms alongside a comprehensive range of shared amenity spaces designed to support academic success, wellbeing and community. Developed for a predominantly international postgraduate student population, the building responds to the evolving expectations of contemporary student life, balancing private study with opportunities for connection, collaboration and social interaction.

The article highlights the contribution of Jasper Sanders + Partners, who were appointed to lead the interior design and spatial planning of the amenity spaces, alongside developing the specification for bedrooms and shared kitchen-lounge areas throughout the building. The studio was also responsible for the building’s brand strategy, graphic identity and wayfinding design, creating a cohesive resident experience from arrival through to everyday occupation.

Inspired by the life and legacy of LSE alumna Eslanda Robeson, the interior identity draws upon themes of knowledge, activism and global connection. A series of bespoke murals along The Street, the central internal spine of the building, celebrate key moments from Robeson’s life through a contemporary graphic language inspired by the layered geometry and patterns of London Underground upholstery.

Educational Snapshots highlights how the interiors combine colour, materiality and storytelling to create distinct environments for different aspects of student life, from focused study and fitness through to social dining, relaxation and community gathering. Through a carefully considered approach to identity, navigation and atmosphere, Robeson House establishes a new benchmark for purpose-built student accommodation, creating a place where students from around the world can live, learn and thrive.
