The development delivers 119 thoughtfully designed apartments across two buildings, together with ten contemporary townhouses, all carefully positioned alongside the revitalised Ancoats Green. The scheme strengthens the connection between the neighbourhoods of Ancoats and Miles Platting, creating a new residential community that combines city-centre accessibility with access to landscape, nature and public space.
Jasper Sanders + Partners was appointed by Buttress Architects to design and deliver the resident amenity spaces within Alabaster House, alongside creating a cohesive interior specification for the apartments and townhouses. The studio’s work focused on enhancing the everyday experience of residents through carefully considered shared environments and a residential design approach that supports community, wellbeing and connection.
The project also places strong emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, incorporating measures including triple-glazed windows and high-quality insulation to help reduce energy consumption and support lower running costs for residents.
Commenting on the completion, Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, described No.1 Ancoats Green as “the realisation of a long-term ambition for This City to deliver high-quality homes on council-owned land, including genuinely affordable housing through the Manchester Living Rent initiative.”
Councillor Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Development, also highlighted the significance of the development, noting that the completion represents an exciting milestone for This City and that the combination of quality homes, the refurbished Ancoats Green and proximity to the city centre makes it one of Manchester’s most attractive new residential developments.
No.1 Ancoats Green represents a significant step in the evolution of Manchester’s housing landscape, demonstrating how thoughtful design, sustainable development and community-focused living can combine to create places that positively contribute to the future of the city.
